Just weeks into her course, Christianah decided to apply to become a Marketing Student Ambassador and says it was the best decision she ever made.
How did you get involved in being a Marketing Student Ambassador?
I became an Ambassador in my first year at City, only a few weeks into my course, and it was one of the best decision I ever made. Not only did the role pay generously (£8 per hour) but it also provided me with awareness of my university early on (through giving campus tours), which meant I could get to my lectures and seminars quicker!
What do you enjoy about it?
I am very proud to be a City student and one of the reasons I applied was to give something back by promoting City and informing prospective students of how great City is!
I have loved being an Ambassador due to the flexibility and the variety of work it offers me. I have worked on Open Days, Postgraduate Evenings, UCAS Fairs and Offer Holder Days. I also enjoy talking and meeting new people – this job allows me to do what I love and get paid!
What do you find challenging/rewarding?
Being an Ambassador has been a very rewarding experience; it has boosted my CV credentials, provided me with excellent work experience and given me the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. My student life experience at City has been enhanced because I have been able to meet and network with students outside of my course. In terms of the challenges, I found it hard to balance my academics with my ambassador role. However, as time went by and due to the flexible nature of the role, I was able to develop a healthy work-life balance and, in time, good time management.
How do you think that this experience has changed you?
This experience has improved my time management skills and boosted my self-esteem. As a first-year student, I was initially very shy and hadn’t made many friends at university. Luckily, I got the chance to meet different people on and outside my course. It goes without saying, this role played a key part in my student life experience at City.
Why would you recommend it to others?
Being a Marketing Ambassador is a deeply rewarding opportunity both on a personal level and also in terms of career prospects. As an Ambassador, you get the opportunity to work with different kinds of people, develop your skill set and represent your university on and off campus.
